Classes

A character’s class is essentially a set of behaviors, skills, and actions available to them while exploring the universe. Adventuring is not for everybody. The void is dangerous, unpredictable, and sometimes, it can be deadly. The life of an explorer is one only the exceptional lead.

Operator

During a firefight, a uniformed human shouts above the roar of gunfire into his coms, letting his squad mate know the time is now. The man draws fire from their target and his mate can get out of danger.

A female El’Tari runs over to her downed ally and reaches for her equipment. Her friend is bleeding out. She shouts in frustration, “Not yet!” Her teammates suddenly open their eyes and inhale sharply, coming back to consciousness.

The Trik’en soldier shouts at his target, distracting them for just long enough to give the Trik an opening to disarm his enemy.

These three Operators are different in specialties, yet all have had the same core training. Operators rely on the commands they give to their squad and themselves, to either give them an advantage over their enemy or to be able to support their team. Operators have specific training they rely on during their adventures within the vast, unforgiving universe.

To Protect and Serve

To an Operator, everyone they see becomes an opportunity to serve. Operator training gives them the edge to survive and protect those who cannot protect themselves. The citizens of the universe respect an operator as a standard and will provide aid when asked. An operator relies on their squad to complete their goals and their squad relies on them for support. Operators need to protect and serve, or they start to lose their edge.

Special Soldier

Not every soldier becomes an Operator. Operators are the exemplary unit. They have tops marks all around and are natural born leaders. Other soldiers look to operators for orders and will follow them into the fire. Only elite soldiers have the honor of becoming an operator.

Blitzer

A hefty Grax soldier carries a large auto-rifle up a hill and looks down at his enemies. He is a lone fighter, holding his ground until the last enemy falls or all else is lost. You can see in his eyes, something has snapped. Is it a last desperate effort to live or is he reveling in the blood lust of his fallen foes?

A bleeding Chocari warrior screams at the top of her lungs and charges her foes ahead. She has no sense of fear or hesitation, letting her weapon swing freely at those who stand in her way.

A human holds their gun at their hip and opens it up, spraying a group of rogue security droids and destroying every last one of them. The human blitzer only stops firing their gun when they come to their senses. They see their gun has overheated, glowing a cherry red.

Blitzers have no cares at all, easily throwing themselves into combat, desperately needing to destroy their enemies. These explorers use their rage to protect themselves in battle. When a blitzer goes berserk they are able to soak up damage and protect their teammates. Some prefer to be up front, swinging their weapons wildly at the enemy. Other Blitzers enjoy using a firearm, hip firing at multiple enemies, spreading the pain around.

Berserk

When a Blitzer enters combat, the first thing they do is lose control. Going berserk allows a Blitzer to unlock their true power. They are able to use this rage as an advantage, not caring if the enemy can also strike them with ease.

Toughest of the Lot

Most people give Blitzers a wide berth, knowing that the smallest of slights can set them off. Other explorers know a Blitzer has their back and will be in the enemy’s face, giving the team time and space to succeed on their mission.

Agent

Hiding in the shadows, the Chocari agent locates his target and takes aim through his scope. After taking a deep breath, he slowly exhales and fires his weapon. Even after his shot enters the air, the target is unaware their death is moments away.

The CIM agent dons his light weave armor, preparing for his next mission. He inspects his rifle, double checking every important component. He reads his data pad, studying his next target’s dossier, learning all he can before his hunt begins.

The El’Tari agent takes their shot from a distance while their teammate has the enemy engaged and gives the agent an opening to hit the most vital of areas. The Agent’s shot is almost guaranteed to be lethal.

Every agent learns to use the dark as their ally. They lean on their teammates to engage the enemy up close so they can target the enemy at a distance whenever they are the most lethal. If an agent acquires a sniper rifle, they may become quite deadly.

Lethal

Agents know where to place the most lethal shot. This requires them to be unseen or given enough time to make their shot count. With a team, an agent can use the distractions of their squad mates to line up a lethal shot. Without any of these advantages, an agent is just another soldier with a long gun. Agents use their environment and their allies to ensure they can be as lethal as possible.

Bounty Stalkers

Agents usually make the best bounty stalkers, learning the skills to track their targets and take out their targets quickly. If Agents attack their target while unaware, their shots do increased damage. Some agents use surprise to their advantage making their first shot count. Other agents train their mind to track their targets and learn their weaknesses.

Specialist

The human female talks her way out of a firefight, trusting that luck will help her through unscathed. Her teammates thank her for talking down the goons. The entire team knows, but will not admit it, they all would have been killed if she had not succeeded.

The Thalan male lines up his shot on a rogue security droid, and fires. Even though the droid is moving erratically, making his aim unreliable, the Specialist uses the power of manifestation, and fires anyway, knowing it will hit. It does.

A Grax female sees her teammate, working on a device that will get the team out of the locked vault they are all trapped in. She sees her teammate struggling, and with a thought, wishes her ally success. As the Grax female looks back, her teammate is now smiling, and all finished building the device.

Luck

A specialist relies on luck to make sure their actions or their team’s actions succeed. Be it through prayer, or their will of mind, they know they will succeed somehow. Specialists understand not all things go to plan and not everything they can do will succeed but most of the time luck is on their side.

Selfish or Selfless?

Some specialists are selfish, using their luck for themselves. They have a heightened sense of confidence and know when to take the shot, they know exactly when it will hit.

Other specialists are selfless, using their luck for others and ensuring the team succeeds over and over again.

Architect

A human male sits at his workbench, filling a set of darts with a formula he developed and designed to heal his teammates. He loads them into his self-made gauntlet which holds many of his inventions. He double checks his work, before placing the gauntlet back down on his workbench and begins to focus on preparing the rest of his inventions for the day.

A female Thalan sees her teammate struggling and weakened from the current firefight. She adjusts something with one of her inventions and fires a cryo blast towards her ally and also in line with an enemy as well. The effect of her invention flash freezes the target but heals her ally, coating her in a healing frost. Her ally stands up and continues the fight, finishing off the frozen enemy.

A Trik’en female pulls out one of her inventions and instead of using it as normally intended, she presses a special button on it. The device is thrown in front of her where it expands into a small energy shield. Ducking behind it, she wipes her brow just as an enemy unloads their weapon at her, and completely missing her.

Inventions

Like all inventors, an architect designs and implements personally designed inventions that produce and create effects of all kinds. To those uneducated, these effects seem quite magical. Yet truthfully its advanced science at its peak. Unlike other inventors, architects focus on creating inventions that help and support themselves and their team.

Over time, architects learn to develop inventions that do not consume resources, greatly increasing the architect’s effectiveness while exploring the dangerous void.

Superior Support

Architects specialize in supporting their squads. Whether it be through their effective healing inventions or through manipulating events through lightning-fast calculations, architects make sought after teammates who other explorers learn to trust with their lives.

Engineer

A Grax looks upon his weapon, studying the sights, trigger, heat sink, and every other component, looking for a way to improve or upgrade it. After concluding where to best improve his weapon, he pulls out his tools and begins to work. A couple of hours later, he lays down his tools and picks up his firearm, satisfied with his work.

A CIM begins donning her custom armor, being careful not to damage any of her upgraded segments. Each piece has been personally modified and built; using the inventions she designed. Her teammates, almost intimidated by her presence, give her a wide berth, knowing she is focused on her task. As she finishes placing the last piece on, the armor begins to hum slightly; lights and sensors beginning to activate and glow.

An El’Tari sits on a stool working diligently on a droid which stands almost two meters tall. The droid looks ready to defend its creator. As she finishes her work and activating it, pressing a few buttons, and flipping a few switches. The droid’s central eye illuminates and it goes through a series of self-checks before stepping forward, and speaking in a deep robotic voice, “How may I protect you mistress?”

Like all inventors, engineers design and create inventions. Engineers specialize in creating unique items for themselves or their teammates. These small and unique upgrades may provide a boost the squad needs to succeed on their mission.

Upgrades

Engineers focus on creating upgrades for their gear and armor, making them quite effective in combat and exploration. The upgrades consist of small items or modifications which provide bonus effects and abilities other explorers may be unable to recreate. Engineers are seen as valuable teammates as they may also build upgrades for their squad.

Engineers, in general, are very handy with most tools. If something needs to be repaired, the team sends in the engineer. Engineers will have most things back up and running quickly and may be working even better than before it was broken.

Sapper

A CIM quickly constructs his inventions for the day, focusing on how to create the most destruction with them. His teammates said to pack a punch for the upcoming mission, and the CIM intends to do so. He has put every 1 and 0 into designing the most destructive inventions possible.

A human blindly grabs one of her inventions before activating it and tosses it at her enemy. As it is activated midair, it lets out a few purple sparks. It reaches its target and activates as intended, blinding them, but it also explodes in a slick of oil, coating the ground unintentionally.

A Chocar finishes building a small drone and connects it to his hard drive, transferring the Artificial Intelligence he wrote and programmed. The drone begins to move with a life-like quality, hovering about the chocar, examining every single hair. Then when it seems satisfied, the drone speaks to the chocar, “Where should we begin?”

All these sappers design and build inventions with one purpose; to harness power and create as much havoc and destruction as possible. Some sappers do so with the purpose; to do what is right for the team. While others may be a target the team has been sent to eliminate, in order to stop their destructive machinations.

Boom

Sappers put all their mind into designing exceptionally potent and destructive inventions by learning to add unique programs to them. These inventions are upgraded with unique and potent qualities. As long as their inventions cause the most destruction, most sappers are satisfied inventors.

Chaos or Control

Two types of sappers exist. One revels in chaos, hoping to add a little extra to every invention they use. Others create intelligence programmed to assist in controlling the destructive qualities of their inventions.

Shield Cypher

A towering Grax grips his weapon tightly while surveying the battlefield. His comrade looks to be in trouble, a monstrous alien has pinned the ally to the ground. With his mind, the Grax opens a rift through time and space, charging through it, then appearing next to the alien creature. He then lets out a howl of psychic energy, and sends a shockwave into the beast, blasting it away from his ally.

A Trik’en squats behind cover while she focuses her mind, remembering the Shield’s Directive, Size of Mind, Not Body. With precise execution and minimal effort, she charges her enemy, appearing right next to them. The Trik’en unloads her weapon, bringing down her foe, just before another enemy begins to shoot. Already weakened from taking a few good shots, her mind knows how to protect her. As she takes another wound, instead of falling unconscious, she becomes stronger and more focused. The Trik’en confidently picks out her next target to tear apart.

A human runs across the hanger bay, his mental barrier at full strength. Ahead of him, an ally is under fire, and with a thought, the human sends out his barrier to protect the ally from damage. The human throws an orb, a ball of mental force, at the attacking enemy, as he continues across the hanger. The use of his talent strengthens his barrier, preparing him for the next danger.

Charging with your mind

One of a Shield’s main tools is their innate talent, Charge. It brings them right to the fight, allowing them to protect their team. It also allows them to escape from tough opponents, preventing the enemy an opportunity to take an attack.

Cerebral Barrier

Select Shield Cyphers use their minds to provide them with special defenses for themselves and eventually their allies. When they use one of their talents, excess mental energy is absorbed and transformed into a barrier which protects them from damage.

Sword Cypher

A human runs across the overrun transport, drawing her mental blade, her sword. She strikes with her weapon, destroying the alien parasite with her mental force. She looks up and sees another of the ugly beasts and throws her blade at it. The mental sword flies across the deck, eliminating the creature. In the blink of an eye, the sword reappears in her hand.

An El’Tari dances with his blade, dodging enemy attacks. Striking twice in quick succession, he moves across the battlefield, keeping alert for more danger. Seeing the leader of the enemy group, the El’Tari prepares to strike. He sends a beam of psychic energy and channels his whole being into the attack. With physical effort the El’Tari eliminates the enemy in one strike.

A Thalan throws an orb of mental force, striking her target. The enemy next to her target hears his ally wrack in pain, then grabs his head as his mind explodes in pain as well. The Thalan’s next attack goes wide but veers back to her target, striking a vital area. Every attack she makes seems to strike her targets with ease.

Glass Cannon

Swords are meant to hunt down and destroy their enemies. They believe the best way to defend their team is to eliminate their enemy and sacrifice defenses to provide their team with as much offensive power they can contribute.

Sword’s Directive

A Sword Cypher will specialize in the way they act on the battlefield. A Dancer allows their thoughts to flow, moving to a rhythm, attacking their enemy with distinct movements, and allowing their talents to strike in cadence. A Splinter Cyphers focuses on striking multiple opponents at once. They can turn misses into hits with increased damage. Eventually Splinter Cyphers turn their pain into their enemy’s pain.

Shadow Cypher

A Trik’en in the shadows, is attempting to stay hidden from any onlookers. She focuses her mind, and the shadows appear to cling to her body making her nearly invisible. She moves around her enemies, easily keeping silent and hidden. Brushing up against her enemy, she almost reveals her presence, but is able to skillfully slip away without provoking her enemy.

An El’Tari screams out with her mind causing her target to writhe in continuous pain. He moves away from his target, keeping them in his sights. In retaliation, it attempts to fire its weapon at the El’Tari, but the neural, lasting pain distracts the enemy, causing them to miss the shot.

A human hiding in the shadows, waits for her target to turn their back. Her teammate moves in and engages the target, giving her the opportunity she needs. Unleashing her psychic blade, she throws it using her mind at the distracted target. The blade hits in a vital area causing the target to fall.

A Friend of Shadow

The darkness is a Shadow Cypher’s best friend, and mental training helps them to learn how to control it. A Shadow is not as common as a shield or sword as their training is not in alignment with the other two Cypher’s directives, where it is not common to kill their enemy, just incapacitate them. A Shadow Cypher learns techniques to eliminate their targets thoroughly, through unrelenting pain or the use of shadows to make their attacks more lethal. Many Wild-Cyphers, a Cypher who did not train at the Cypher Academy, become Shadow Cyphers, having to resort to using the darkness to protect them from the dangers of the void.

Silent Steps

A Shadow relies on their first innate talent, Silent Step, to keep hidden and away from enemies. A Shadow’s usefulness relies on them dealing damage and the ability to not take damage as well and this talent enables all those goals.
